Excerpt from the letters to Anne Teabig

December 17, 1773

Dearest Anne,

The times in the colonies are on the verge of eruption. Last night marked an event that will forever be remembered by the British. Over 150 brave colonists, disguised as Indians, snuck aboard three ships holding tea in the Boston Harbor. We unloaded what had to be more than 40 tons of tea into the harbor! It was a stealthy act of rebellion.

We refuse to pay these absurd taxes! The Crown's dept from the French and Indian War is not our concern. How dare they tax us more and more to pay for their mistakes? Without representation in Parliament, we will not stand for it! No taxation without representation was the message that rang clear through Boston Harbor last night. The British will not forgot that night in Boston!

Your loving husband,

William U. B. Teabig
